Description arzik 2006-09-25 15:58:02 UTC
Ubuntu 6.10 Knot 3 updated to 24.9.2006 level with OOo 2.0.4 RC2. It is not
possible to embed (www) links in the text or in pictures the way one can do in
Evolution, Thuderbird and other email-clients and in MS PowerPoint or in OOo
Writer (embedding in pictures does not work in Writer, either). When you paint
the object, to which you want to embed the link, nothing happens: the link
appears on the text (the original text does not show) or on the picture as
separate link - not as embedded link within the picture or hidden 'behind' the
text as in all other apps mentioned.

I checked with "2.0.2 German version WIN XP: [680m5(Build9011)]" (and several
other avaliable OOo versions) and can confirm the problem. Currently no
hyperlinks can be referred to DRAW objects (generally) and to pictures (.png or
similar) in DRAW and IMPRESS documents.

I believe that this is a more complex problem with the object model in DRAW,
what causes a lack of features in the dialogue. We do not have a real "Object"
Dialogue in DRAW as we now in in WRITER (or CALC). In DRQW we only have separate
dialogues for borders, areas, ..., but no one for the complete object.
In WRITER after a click on an picture "someimage.png" a picture dialogue will
open where you find cards for Picture hyperlink (from where the picture is
linked into the document), Hyperlink (to where a click on the image should lead)
and so on. In DRAW, for example, it's necessary to use the "Edit - Links"
dialogue to find out from where a picture to the document, what is much less
user friendly than the way in WRITER, where we can see that information in a
card of the picture dialogue.

We need something similar for picture- (and DRAW-) objects in DRAW and IMPRESS
as a presupposition for a hyperlink embedding to those objects.

I would like to vote for this issue, but unfortunately my votes are "used up".

You can easily use picture for linking when you use edit/image map (works in
writer/impress, draw, calc). Also embedding links into text works here.
Reassigning after changing the title a bit to make it fit better.

The problem with the non-working link in writer I have sent to writer QA. It
works when you put a http:// in front of the www...

With implementing issue 80528 the GraphicDraft-tool is lost, which you could use
to see the path of the linked picture. Therefore this issue becomes more important.

See also the similar issue 15683, issue 20915 and issue 35650.

So this issue is about having a user interface to work with embeded/linked graphics.

FYI, in OOo 3.1 you can select a shape (image, rectangle, text, e.t.c.) and
click on the hyperlink toolbar entry. The inserted hyperlink will be embedded
inside the shape. I think this is what the submitter of this issue wanted at the
first place.

Dear developers!
The hyperlink insert operates in Impress, but does not operate in Draw.
Perhaps, the error will be corrected in ООо 3.3?
