Dear developers,
we have significant number of RFEs to enhance "Special characters" dialog. 
As this seems to be self-contained area I have compiled annotated list below.
Please consider enhancing that dialog to increase it's usability.

There are some plans, the least is that we want to have a direct assignment to
shortcuts. As always it's a matter of resources and importance. But by providing
your compilation in this meta issue you have helped us to consider additional
perhaps small changes "while we are at it" - even if we planned to implement the
shortcuts only.

Font in Insert -> Special Character should have own default font option

DELETE button should be replaced with BACKSPACE functionality instead or
deleting everything.
Font size and area of the selected chars should be increased for better viewing.
Double clicking a character should not close down the dialog.
