Description ccheney 2009-03-20 00:51:44 UTC
This is a MS Word document provided by the Belgian government which one needs to
fill in when one wants to start their own company.

The layout is very strict because this document is published publicly.

OpenOffice.org doesn't parse this MS Word document properly.

There appear to be several issues here, feel free to separate into individual
bug reports as needed.
Comment 2 michael.ruess 2009-03-20 14:17:11 UTC
In the official builds this looks quite good compared to the output of MS Word.
The document is password protected, so if further problems occur, it would be
good to have an unprotected version of that file so it is possible to work on
the document.
Please also note that it is not good community work to say "hey, the document
looks ugly, take it and file issues...".
Comment 3 michael.ruess 2009-03-20 14:19:43 UTC
CLosed.
Please be patient that we cannot process such descriptions, otherwise we would
have loads of issue with summary "poor rendering of document" or "wrong Word
import" - makes processing issue very hard and inconvenient.

mru,

Which version of OOo are you using where this document 'looks quite good'? It
has some very obvious rendering issues the most apparent in the 'Ondernemigen'
box overlapping other areas of display. This bug report was originally filed on
Ubuntu which is what I am forwarding. However I am using official OOo 3.0.1 here
to view the document so I don't understand why you don't see the obvious issues
with this document? As OOo 3.1.0 is still not released I have not started
testing bug reports against it.

I apologize if my description was not sufficient, I will try to find ways to
improve my descriptions for rendering bugs going forward.

Thanks,

Chris

Also I did not notice any compliant by OOo 3.0.1 about the document being
password protected so if it is I did not realize this.

@ccheney: to detail what MRU meant... :)

First, yes your report was too general, like: "look at the document, it doesn't
look right". So we have nothing concrete to focus on. It also sounds a little
bit like "Hey, will you find all the 7 mistakes hidden in that document?" ;)

Now you have talked about: "'Ondernemigen' box overlapping other areas".
That's what we expect in a description!

Second, referring to Ubuntu issues, we expect people reporting HERE to have
checked also our native OOo build to be sure that it is an OOo bug and not an
Ubuntu OOo bug. So please, in the future, check issues in the native build and
say you have done it!

Third, you may not wait for a release of the next version to see if a problem is
already fixed.
Explanation: before reporting a problem for 3.0.1 you may check it in DEV 3.1 to
be sure it's not already fixed. In this case you don't need to report an issue.

Hoping those explanations will help you reporting more accurately in the future :)

But back to the case:

- Text frame "Ondernemingen" is misplaced (moved down) compared to the MS Word view.
- This is also reproducible in OOo 3.1 dev (OOO310m6) on WinXP
Comment 7 eric.savary 2009-03-20 16:43:53 UTC
Changed summary to surround the problem.
Comment 8 michael.ruess 2009-03-24 16:13:20 UTC
MRU->HBRINKM: the text box containing 'Ondernemigen' is positioned a bit too low
after import, so that it covers part of the text in the table.
Unfortunately the document is password protected and it is not possible to check
the properties of any content in the doc with MS Word. But perhaps ccheney can
provide an unprotected version of the document so that it might be possible to
compare the properties of the output in both applications.
Comment 9 ccheney 2009-03-25 05:03:31 UTC
As I understand from the Ubuntu bug report this is a government document from
Belgium so I doubt I can obtain an unprotected version of the document. Sorry. :(
