Locale data for Oromo Language
Comment 2 ooo 2009-04-22 12:27:06 UTC
Thank you for your contribution.

In the attached locale data file the number formats for currency use
a parenthesized form for negative amounts ([CURRENCY]#,##0.00) that
usually is only correct for locales based on an en-US locale, which
probably is an oversight here. Please check and correct if appropriate.

Btw, did you already sign the SCA? See
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Sun_Contributor_Agreement

Thanks
  Eike

@barreessaa:
Could you please evaluate the currency formats as per my previous comment and
correct them if/as needed? Please also state whether you signed the SCA.
Thanks
  Eike

@barreessaa:
Please answer my questions. Note also that I can not integrate code or data that
was not submitted under SCA. Thanks.

    Dear Eik,

Sorry for the delay. And thanks a lot for your support.

The negative currency format for our locale is the same as English.
We have already signed the scanned copy of SCA and sent it through e-mail
around four months ago.

      With Best Regards,
      Dawit

Register an account with the wiki, see link on the top right, then login and
browse to the Pending_JCAs page and click the Edit link. Just add your entry
before the line reading <missing SCAs go here>.

In cws locales32:

i18npool/source/localedata/localedata.cxx

revision 273443
i18npool/source/localedata/data/om_ET.xml

Note that I changed the ListSeparator from ',' comma to ';' semicolon, only for
consistency. It currently isn't used in the application.

Compiling the data gave:

Warning: QuotationStart and QuotationEnd are both ASCII characters. Not
necessarily an error, but unusual.
Warning: DoubleQuotationStart and DoubleQuotationEnd are both ASCII characters.
Not necessarily an error, but unusual.
Warning: QuotationStart equals QuotationEnd. Not necessarily an error, but unusual.
Warning: DoubleQuotationStart equals DoubleQuotationEnd. Not necessarily an
error, but unusual.

Usually, languages use typographic single and double quotation marks, not the
plain ASCII ones, isn't that the case with Oromo? See also in Writer menu
Tools->AutoCorrect->CustomQuotes, which is where they are used.

If you wish, I can change them as appropriate.

    Dear Erack,

It is better to use typographic single and double quotation marks for
Afan Oromo too. We didnt use the ASCII characters delibrately. So would you
please help us on correcting the mistake?

      Thanks,
      Dawit

Hi Dawit,

Sure, just tell me which should be used and I'll change the data. From the
following list pick start and end characters of single and double quotes.

    0253 171 0xAB « "«" LEFT-POINTING DOUBLE ANGLE QUOTATION MARK
