Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 103009
Corrupted Form When Saving Back as .doc
Last modified: 2009-06-23 15:15:05 UTC
The problem appears when importing a word document in writer containing certain types of data fields. The import goes smoothly but if the file is saved within Oo, the page will loose some formatting (such as color and cell text wrap). That part happens whether the file is saved back as .odf or .doc. That issue was more severe in 3.0.1 (meaning it lost more formating than 3.1) but is still present in 3.1. The big issue however, is when such a file is saved back as as .doc and opened in word, the file is corrupt and some of the data entered in fields is now missing (such as checks and some typed in data). This is reproductible every single time on every computer we have. That has also happened on more than one document. We can't recreate those documents as they are supplier supplied forms which have to be filled and returned exactly as they are. This is stopping our tests for roll out of Oo in our organization at this point. I've included the original Word document(minus logos and name) unaltered by openoffice . If you fill out the "supplier" section of the field and save it back as a word document, it will be corrupted when trying to open it in word and even using "open and repair" in word will not restore the lost informations entered in some of the fields. PS : This is the first time I submit an issue and I've searched the database to no avail so please bare with me if something is not as it should.

Failed to mention that reading back the .doc file saved by Writer in Oo still has missing info (namely check marks) so this isn't simply a problem of Word not reading back existing data.
Non-saved Checkbox state is already tracked as issue 100709. Nan-saved content of the input fields is already tracked as issue 89680. *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 89680 ***
