Description john_klemen 2009-06-25 21:09:34 UTC
Now this sounds very similar to issue 14901, but that is so old, that I do post
this as a new issue.

The problem occured in Version 2.4 on Linux (Ubuntu 8.04) as well as on Windows
Vista in Versions 2.4 and 3.1.

I have a medium-size report (something like 60 pages). After deleting headings
(with backspace) the cursor remains slightly inset, as if a tab was inserted,
but no control sign is shown.

The first of these aretefacts only slowed down writer, but the last one made it
crash after about 2 secs. Every restart will reproduce a crash.

The problem could be resolved by opening the document and deleting an artefact
faster than writer crashed.

(the online form I'm using does'nt show me a possibility to attach the file, but
I'll mail it to anyone, who asks me for it!)

writer 2,4 and 3.1 crash on this file!
Comment 2 eric.savary 2009-06-25 21:27:39 UTC
What do you delete where to reproduce the crash?
Comment 3 michael.ruess 2009-06-25 22:49:01 UTC
Hm, I placed cursor e.g. in paragraph "8 Schluss", deleted the characters with
Backspace one after another, deleted the number the same way and also the
remaining tab indent. But I had no crash or slow down; also with other Heading
from the beginning of the text.
I tried with OOo 3.1 on WinXP.
Did you send a crash report with the automatically appearing (right after
re-starting OOo after a crash) front end?
Comment 4 john_klemen 2009-06-26 14:42:00 UTC
No, you got me wrong, writer crashes after 2 secs, when I open the document. I
can prevent the crash if I delete the tab in chapter 8.

When ooffice crashes I get the german report, of "Dokumentenwiederherstellung":

OpenOffice.org Dokumentenwiederherstellung

Durch einen unerwarteten Fehler ist OpenOffice.org abgestürzt. Alle Dateien an
denen Sie arbeiten werden gespeichert...

The exact version I'm refering to here is OpenOffice.org 2.4.1 in
openoffice.org-core 1:2.4.1-1ubuntu2.1, but as I said the Error also occured
under Windows... Maybe it's a Problem with the geman Version!? My Win-Version is
also german!
Comment 5 eric.savary 2009-07-02 22:49:50 UTC
So what do you call "artifacts" in the context?
I'm downloading a German version now.
Not reproducible in the English version.
Comment 6 john_klemen 2009-07-03 09:22:04 UTC
I mean the "tabs" that remain, if you delete a heading. (If you turn on
?control-signs? (German: Kointrollzeichen), no tab is shown!)
Comment 7 michael.ruess 2009-07-03 15:31:06 UTC
The document does not crash my OOo when just opening it.
Maybe it is a problem with the different view we get... Does the problem still
occur when you Change the User name in Tools.Options.OpenOffice.User data? Then
the document should show up at the beginning of it.
Comment 8 michael.ruess 2009-07-07 18:50:50 UTC
John,
did you try my workaround proposal? I am still not able to reproduce the problem...
Comment 9 john_klemen 2009-07-08 10:42:49 UTC
I just tried it on a third system with Win 2000 and OOo 3.1 and empty
user-settings - the identical crash occured.

It really seem strange to me, because I've reproduced the cras on three
different systems! All Use OOo in the german version. One Linux with OOo2.6, one
Vista with OOo3.1 and the Win 2000 mentioned above.

Comment 10 eric.savary 2009-07-17 00:08:54 UTC
@john_klemen:
WOW!
I tried this:
- Like MRU in an English build: no crash.
- In a French and in a Spanish build (meaning "non English"): no crash.
- (following your last comments) In a German build: Crash some seconds after
load without doing nothing!
(I couldn't deliver a crash report because the crash reporter crashes on
recovery...)

What do we learn about this?
This is a rule that if you want to report issues here you HAVE TO have an
English build installed. If you had done so you could have compared with your
German build and have stressed the difference in your description.
So please make sure in the future to have an English build installed of the
current version in order to compare/get the English terminology.

@MBA: I don't know who to assign to. Please dispatch. Setting 3.2 but you might
retarget to 3.x.
Comment 11 Mathias_Bauer 2009-10-27 14:26:30 UTC
Obviously missed 3.2
Comment 12 Marcus 2017-05-20 11:13:45 UTC
Reset assigne to the default "issues@openoffice.apache.org".
