1 - open writer
2 - draw rectangle
3 - click into object - object is selected  
4 - set filling = invisible
5 - click into object - object is not selected

There are several issues about this topic, so we need not another one. Please
look at issue 29804 and issue 80387. Other issues want to solve the problem via
navigator: 80549, 15297, 96488

If your object still has a border, you can select it by clicking onto the border.
