Description cynwong12 2009-07-14 14:57:33 UTC
I have an extension built for my macros and toolbar. My extension is working
fine on OOo 3.0.1 and 2.3.

However, when I tried to install on OOo 3.1, it gives me error " an error
occurred during file opening" on Installation. But my toolbar and macros are
installed and working fine. However, when I tried to open Extension Manager, it
simply crushes the writer.

After tried to remove the toolbar manually, it still doesn't work.

Thus, I have removed and reinstalled the writer. And I have deleted every
related folders just in case.

When I reinstall my extension, writer gives me the same error message after
installation. And my macros are working fine. This time, when I open Extension
Manager, it does open but my extension is not there. But toolbar and macros are
installed.

On another computer, extension manager crush the writer.

@cynwong12:
Please
- Attach extension
- Specify OS and Platform
- Contribute a clear and simple step by step instruction containing every mouse
  click and every key press how to reproduce the problem
- explain
  -- "I have removed and reinstalled the writer" ???
  -- "After tried to remove the toolbar manually, it still doesn't work." ???
     What means "it"?

Hello cynwong12,
please attach the extension to this issue, so that we are able to reproduce and
fix the problem here. Thanks for your patience.

- I was using Window Vista and Window XP. So Platform should be PC.
- What do you mean by "every mouse click and every key press how to produce the
problem"? I have tried installing the toolbar from Extension Manager and double
clicking on the .oxt file.
- "I have removed and reinstalled the writer" - I meant I have uninstalled Open
Office.org and delete all its relative files and folders. Restart the Window and
Reinstall the Open Office.Org. (For OOo 3.1 version, I installed Writer only.)
- "After tried to remove the toolbar manually, it still doesn't work." ???
     What means "it" - it means Extension Manager. It still is still crush the
OOo for me.

For my extension, I wasn't sure it was my extension or Extension Manager. So I
download a couple of extension from http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/.
They all give me the same error. I am not sure what I have used as I have
deleted them already. But I am pretty sure one of them is
Writer2xhtml.

ICE toolbar extension
Comment 7 cynwong12 2009-07-20 01:16:55 UTC
I have attached the extension.

To produce the error, just install the extension.

Comment 8 Rainer Bielefeld 2009-07-20 07:05:42 UTC
I checked with "Ooo 3.1.0 WIN XP multilingual version German UI activated
[OOO310m11 (Build 9399)]" and can confirm problems with attached extension
"ice-toolbar.oxt"

The extension might be from "http://ice.usq.edu.au/"

During installation (I followed instructions in "ice_toolbar_ext.pdf" from ICE
web site, pls. see new attachment!) I got the reported error message concerning
problems to open a particular (unknown) file, but that is a minor problem.

I closed and reopened OOo after installation of that extension and saw new
toolbars in WRITER. When I now try to use the Extension Manager, OOo crashes
100% reproducible

It seems that this extension installs files in
<C:\Dokumente und
Einstellungen\Rainer\Anwendungsdaten\OpenOffice.org\3\user\uno_packages\cache\uno_packages>

I asked for help in mailing list <ice_dev@mailman.usq.edu.au>

rainerbielefeld, I see you have sent email to ice-dev. I am one of the ICE
developers. I am responsible for the toolbar. You can talk to me regarding this
matter.

"It seems that this extension installs files in
<C:\Dokumente und
Einstellungen\Rainer\Anwendungsdaten\OpenOffice.org\3\user\uno_packages\cache\uno_packages>"
- Why? Are we not support to install the file there? But as far as my research
goes, the extensions are installed there.

But the toolbar is tested with OOo 2.3 and 3.0.1 as well. Extension Managers in
those versions are not crushing after ice-toolbar.oxt installation.
Comment 11 Rainer Bielefeld 2009-07-20 09:41:04 UTC
After I deleted files in uno_packages and repaired OOo installation, Extension
Manager worked as expected.

@cynwong12:
Now we have to wait until a developer will have accepted tis issue.
Comment 12 cynwong12 2009-07-20 09:49:35 UTC
Thanks, @rainerbielefeld.
Comment 13 Rainer Bielefeld 2009-07-29 10:21:03 UTC
It seems that damages are more serious than I thought: Also some Extensions do
not work any longer:
- Lofem Ipsum generator is no longer available
- PDF import does not work any longer but that might also be caused by upgrade of
  PDF import extension
- Even my "repaired" Extension manager does not work correctly any longer. When I
  want to deactivate or delete installed extensions I get lots of messages
  concerning non existing files
Comment 14 joachim.lingner 2009-07-31 16:15:08 UTC
This is all caused by an spelling error in the description.xml.

  <extension-description>
    <src xlink:href="pgk-desc/pkg-description.txt"/>
    <src xlink:href="pgk-desc/pkg-description.txt" lang="en"/>
  </extension-description>

The URLs are wrong. The folder is called pkg-desk. Therefore when opening the
description file there will be an exception which is not appropriately handled.
I am sure there exist already an issue for this.

Fixing the typo in description.xml has resolved the fault using the ICE
extension for OOo 3.1 running on OS X.

Thanks for your help jl
