Description cactuscomputing 2009-08-18 23:09:03 UTC
The attached document 'works.odt' maintains the value of the text flow check box
'Allow table to split..'. Since I save the document with it un-checked the table
is NOT split. With the file 'fails.doc' the unchecked status is not preserved
when re-opening the file. The only difference is the latter was saved as an MS
Word 97/200/XP file.

I checked "works.odt" with "Ooo 3.1.0 WIN XP multilingual version German UI
activated [OOO310m11 (Build 9399)]" and can confirm the reported effect, table
will be splitted in exported document.

MS Office Word Viewer 11.8307.8221 (SP3) shows a splitted table in "fails.doc".

We had the same problem in Issue 76520, what has been fixed for 2.3. I checked
"works.odt" with "2.4.1 Multilingual version German UI WIN XP:
[680m17(Build9310)]" and table export worked fine. So we have a regression.
Comment 4 michael.ruess 2009-08-19 11:26:18 UTC
Cannot be exported/ re-imported because Word does not offer such a feature. By
issue 76520 we have implemented a "workaround fix" to simulate our feature in Word.
Comment 5 michael.ruess 2009-08-19 11:28:27 UTC
Closed, cannot be fixed because Word file format does not offer this.
Comment 6 Rainer Bielefeld 2009-08-19 13:22:46 UTC
@mru:
Here we do not talk about reimport, only export. Has there been any decision
that the fix from Issue 76520 will not be taken for 3.?
Comment 7 michael.ruess 2009-08-19 15:00:52 UTC
MRU->rainerbielefeld: fix of issue 76520 is not broken in 3.x. Word format does
not offer a feature like "do not split table" thus it cannot be exported
directly. Thus the option is checked again after re-opening the document.
Comment 8 Rainer Bielefeld 2009-08-20 10:46:45 UTC
@mru:
what test results let you believe that " ... fix of issue 76520 is not broken in
3.x."?

It seems a more detailed description is required that anyone can understand the
problem I am talking about. Steps to reproduce:

1. Open "works.odt" with OOo 3.1
2. Save as MS WORD97/2000/XP "mytest310.doc"
3. Close document
4. Open "works.odt" with OOo 2.4.1
5. Save as MS WORD97/2000/XP "mytest241.doc"
6. Close document
7. Open both documents "mytest310.doc" and "mytest241.doc" with WORD
(or WORD viewer as I did) and compare Table views
"mytest241.doc": Table shown on document page 2 without being splitted
"mytest310.doc": Table splitted on document pages 1,2
  (Pls. see attached "comparescreenshots.pdf"!)

So the fix from Issue 76520 definitively is broken.

I see, the original report was focussed on the rechecked 'Allow table to
split..' checkbox, what indeed is unavoidable because of the "trick fix" in
Issue 76520 (and, as mru correctly pointed out, not a real bug).

Although the original report is concerning a "non bug", during my investigations
I found out that there is a real bug: The regression you find in my steps 1-7 in
this comment.

May be I should have better opened a new issue to avoid all this confusion :-/

Please decide whether you want to reopen this issue or reopen a new one.

Comment 10 michael.ruess 2009-08-20 11:21:02 UTC
MRU->rainerbielefeld: sad but true, you are right. This is broken since OOo
3.0.1. I have filed issue 104356 because here the original problem was the table
option not preserved (which is not possible at all). Now we have a new clean
issue which is convenient to overview and focuses on the real problem.
