Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 1044
align objects relative to the object that was selected first
Last modified: 2013-09-12 00:42:01 UTC
Hi, one small change that would make life easier. Currently the way you do alignment all the objects are aligned to the average middle or outer most object. It would be better to align to the first selected object. This is the Visio does it. So for example if I have three rectangles for which I want them all vertically aligned to the second, I would first select the second rectangle, then select the rest. Instead of moving to the average center the would move to the center of the second rectangle because it was selected first. Visio provides a visual cue for this by having the first object selected have a diffent selection color for the phamtom line. thanks -Sep
Good suggestion, goes as enhancement to the productmanagement.

Please consider this enhancement for OOo 2.0. It would really enhanced usability of the Draw functionality.
Yes, this issue will be considered for the next milestone. Set the flags, reassigned to owner 'requirements'.
-> adjusted summary (Why do people always forget to set a summarizing summary?)

Any chance this is going to happen in the not-too-distant future? It would make Draw much easier to use for complicated technical drawings. I know you can protect one object's position, align, and then unprotect position, but that's cumbersome when you're doing a whole bunch of "align"s. Thanks, -Arthur
This would be very useful. In my case it's the kind of feature that would make Draw 200% more usable :-)
