Description metaed 2009-09-11 17:06:33 UTC
During the OpenOffice.org upgrade install from 3.1 to 3.1.1 on Windows XP, ten
dialog boxes appear, reporting Internal Error 2908, followed by one dialog box,
reporting Error 1935.

What I did to try to get around the problem:
- ran the installer file again
- downloaded and ran the installer file again
- deleted the registry key AD95649F068525549B26938D7D18FEA7 per advice in the
OO.o forums
- looked for (but did not find) MSCOREE.DLL in WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 per advice in
the OO.o forums (there was one in WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386, and a
MSCOREE.TLB in WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727, but I did not fool
with those)

The URL reported with this issue links to a PNG image of all the error dialog
boxes.

Best wishes,

Edward

worksforme. Virus scanner is blocking installation. Nothing OOo can do here.

Temporarily deactivate your virus scanner while installing OOo.

closing issue. Not caused by OOo, but by third-party software like virus scanner
or similar that block parts of the installation.
Comment 4 metaed 2009-09-28 16:42:50 UTC
Inventory of software which meets that description on target system:
  - Spybot SD
  - Windows Defender
  - Avast Antivirus

The programs listed above were already installed and active prior to the install
of OO.o 3.1 (previous release). The 3.1 install completed with no problem, so was
apparently unaffected by the presence of these programs. This is according to the
build book I maintain.

I tried the suggested workaround. I deactivated all of the above and confirmed
that I had successfully deactivated them. I performed a line-by-line review of the
process tree and the list of running services to be sure all associated processes
and services were successfully stopped.

When I repeated the install of 3.1.1, I was still able to reproduce the problem.

Based on the success of the 3.1 install in the presence of these programs, and
based on the failure of the 3.1.1 install in their absence, I doubt that a virus
scanner or other similar application is blocking the install.

Best wishes,

Edward

Sorry for jumping too early - the virus-scanner diagnosis matches an isolated
1935 error, not one in combination with error 2908

Error 2908, according to the MS knowledgebase is causes by a corrupted .NET
installations

See for example
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/930511/en-us and
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929681/en-us

The following details in manually reinstalling .NET:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908077/
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308096

Please try to fix/repair your .NET installation and report back. Thanks a lot.
