The sigma characters do not display at all (there are "?" in their places) in a
.ppt imported into Presentation on Ubuntu Jaunty i386.

The .ppt is located (for now) here:

the sigmas are displayed on slide 2 in each of the "Correlation", "Convolution",
and "Notes" sections.
