Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 105624
Document open/import problem.
Last modified: 2009-10-06 09:37:03 UTC
After working on a document for a number of hours this day, I shut down my laptop and have just recently re-opened it to continue work. The document will not open properly and only gives me the message "importing document" at roughly 10%. It has created a file called ~lock.Jade Fox.doc# (Jade Fox being the title of the document). I can open the file in Microsoft Word on another machine with absolutely no problems. I have tried copying the contents of the document into a new document and then transferred it back to my laptop. The problem persists. Thanks.
Please attach a sample document.
I'm afraid I cannot attach the document, in the interests of protecting my IP. Through booting the computer up in safe mode, the program has opened with crashing (though it came up as 'not responding' several times), with one whole chapter (roughly ten pages) missing. In the place of those chapters are numbers. E.g. 44444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444 44444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444 44444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444 44444445555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555 55555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555 5555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555 Ascending in this fashion to 15. These numbers all have a grey background. In Microsoft Word there is a large amount of space, hundreds of pages instead of this text. What is more, when I opened the document in Word I was told that there were too many spelling errors and grammatical mistakes (there's a lot of fantasy names I left with red squiggly lines) and informed me that it would no longer display them. Could a large number of these have caused this part of the text to become corrupted? I have deleted all these lines of numbers and the document is opening and closing properly now, so thankfully I can uninstall Word again. I doubt there is any way to recover the lost chapter.
Problem is not reproducible / fixable for us with without the source document which then saved in MS Word format will result in your import problem. If you could somehow provide this, the issue can be reopened.
Closed.
