Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 106746
Erratic behaviour and jumps when zooming-in in Writer (zoom in, multiple pages layout view, Ctrl + mouse wheel, zoom slider)
Last modified: 2009-11-10 12:08:33 UTC
If you are working on a document with multiple pages and you zoom out, it should go fine. But if you want to zoom in to get back to the spot you were working on, or to a newly selected passage, you can forget it. You will be zoomed-in at a mostly random passage of the document. Sometimes you'll end at the beginning of the document, sometimes the "middle" of the zoomed-out view (when in Single page view), sometimes at what seems to be a random position in your document (automatic or columns view). This erratic behaviour while zooming-in happens while zooming with the zoom slider, or with CTRL + mouse wheel, or when using the dropdown list in the toolbar. These jumps are very annoying when working on a document, and really disturb the workflow. --- Proposed solution: when zooming in, the cursor position (or the current selection) should always stay within the view, so that the user doesn't get lost. If the selection is huge (for example on many pages) the beginning of the selection should be always visible This is a complex problem, and has no really perfect solution, but almost nothing could be worse that the current erratic behaviour. --- See also a former discussion - some of the later mails do really contain discussions what is problematic when scrolling/zooming: http://ux.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=discuss&msgNo=1439
