Description giorg 2009-12-14 13:43:11 UTC
- Open the attached odt
- Copy/paste the dates from the attached txt to the last column in the table
- Save the document
- Close and re-open the document
- Dates are wrong

The workaround is to format the cells as simple text.

You should disable "Number recognition" in the context menu of the table. Then
the number formats of the cells won't be reformatted automatically.

Alright, the workaround is fine, but I'd like to point this out: the default is
to have number recognition enabled, but if a user doesn't know about this, then
he could lose informations (as my customer did). In my opinion number
recognition should be disabled by default.

Thanks a lot.

@es: in #100936 you asked to open a new detailed issue because "We don't fix
bugs by switching buggy functions off!"
giorg reported a detailed issue and it has been closed by suggesting to disable
"number recognition". Then you have closed it because it's a duplicate.

Or the function is buggy, therefore this issue must be kept open, or the
configuration is buggy so you have to keep open the #100936.
I think it's not acceptable that people lose their data after saving the
document because of a buggy function.

The test I made was on OOo 3.1.1 on Windows XP, everything in italian. If you
need more details, just tell me.

MRU->OS: if valid date formats are copied to a table (as described above) these
should not be changed to a different (default) date format.

Currently OOW has a loop, it formats data according to format, but if it
it finds "better" match, it formats the format according to data (and then
data according to that new format). This is plain wrong.

OOW can have initial "auto detection of data" turned on, but later when user
selects any "fixed" format this format should be kept no matter what data are
entered in the cells.
