i opened the linked file, impress opens it, i got the view, left the dias, small
pictures, the first dia appears..
after ca. 5 seconds soffice.bin got 100% CPU and no response, i have to kill the
app..

if i tried open any menuitems, if the menu remains open after this 5sec pass,
the whole window manager stops responding, kill from console needed, after it..
system status back to normal.

on an HP 6830s

i tried on a winxp, opened with powerpoint, select all -> open writer, paste..
-> the same as above! 
of course.. simpple open doesn't work there either.. same as above.. as the
version too..

i have tested on a ooo310m11 (XP) - works fine.

Sorry , not reproducible. On linux you just start the slideshow, is that right?
Is that an offical OOo version you are using or from some other distributor?
On windows you seem to do a complete different thing (pasting into writer).
Please do not mix two problems into one issue.
