Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 109347
Simple new-user-friendly way to stop Number Recognition in table via "Number format" dialog
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:37:28 UTC
I'd like to suggest adding an entry to the "Number Formatting..." dialog's list that says something to the effect of "[None]". Selecting this option would stop it from rounding or anything. (For simple people that just want to type "2.009" and finish a math assignment. ^^) It may also be nice if the system detected that a person had repeatedly tried to enter the same piece of data in the same place hoping to get different results, and it just stopped formatting that piece of data until the user comes back. Undo did not work, so I, the stupid guy, was lost. This can be very aggravating for new users, and an easy to find method to "fix" it would be great. It would only take a little bit of exploration to find that the "Number Formatting..." menu probably gives an option, selecting [none] would be much more intuitive than creating a "User-defined" format, stylesheet, or whatever is supposed to be done now (I couldn't find anything other than those (Googling or tinkering) for about 20 minutes before I got on the IRC and started asking). Thank you for an incredible piece of software!
Currently there is the option "Text" which allows the similar "non-formatting" option. But it will be automatically overwritten when the "Number recognition is enabled. Such a new option could also provide the advantage to allow autoformat only for certain regions of a table.
