Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 109615
Paste "HTML without comments" not available on Unix
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:17:32 UTC
Referring to the discussion here: http://techmodblog.blogspot.com/2010/01/notes2-progress.html?showComment=1266946468240#c3448536035538456583, I would like to propose this as enhancement to the Notes2 functionality: Copying web pages to a Writer document sometimes results in the creation of many automatic notes in that document. In above cited discussion it was mentioned that this was a feature and it was proposed to hidden it by default. Please deactivate this "feature" for the normal users, because these usually want to copy the content of the webpages, but would not like to see HTML code in automatically created notes. Example: Please copy the webpage of above mentioned link with CTRL-A and CTRL-C into a newly created Writer document. Result: Not only the content of the webpage is shown, but also a note containing "google_ad_section_start(name=default)". Please see the attachment to this issue. Since this meta-information is not important to most users, please hide such automatically created notes. Thanks.

All HTML comments are pasted as Writer's comments - this must be in order not to lose these and is desired by the majority of users to have this as default. In the "Paste special" options (or in the "Paste" dropdown button in the main toolbar) you have the option to paste as "HTML without comments".
Closed.
I think this issue was closed a bit too quick for two reasons: 1. In OpenOffice 3.1.1 there is no option in Paste special for "HTML without comments". There are only "HTML" (with comments) and "Unformatted text". 2. I think it is important that those HTML information is not lost, o.k. But I can't imagine of any user who likes tens of visible comments in the text document after copying a webpage into it. This seemed to me like an annoying bug in the first place. If possible, please hide these comments and make them not visible.
The fact, that you do not get the option "HTML without comments" made me confuse - but I now found out, that this does not seem to work on Unix systems... More an defect than an RFE.
MRU->OS: when copying content e.g. from FireFox and using "Paste special", one will get the option "HTML without comments". But this only works on Windows - on Unix systems this is missing in Writer. I checked this on Solaris, SUSE and ubuntu.
Reset assigne to the default "issues@openoffice.apache.org".
