Please Attach the documents which make this problem, so we can test
it. (Without the documents, we cannot confirm the problem easily)
Don't forget to cut other part of the documents, so the file size is
small, but we still able to see the problem.

This bug actually has appeared in OOo 1.1.0 build. I had been able to
replicate that bug in the version OOo 1.1.0 build in Linux. I saved the
document with the bacground image in Linux with OOo 1.1.0 build by using the
document format for Word XP and opened the document by using Word 2003 in
Windows XP. But the background is gone. I even tried to open the document
with OpenOffice.org 1.1.0 in Linux and the background is also gone.
I also tried to save the document with background image in the document format
for Word 6.0 and Word 95. The same bug happens in those both formats.

The bug also appears in OOo 2.0.1 build with Windows 2000 Professional. In
addition, I tested to save the document with the background of any colour
without image, e.g, document with the background of blue colour. I also
tried different format of image, e.g., .jpeg and .gif, as the background for
the documents. The same bug still happens. The background of colour, jpeg,
gif would get lost when the document is saved by the document format of Word
XP.

This following is the steps I did in reproducing the bug (for OOo 1.1.0 build
in Linux):
1. Open text document of OpenOffice.org
2. Go to "Menu" > "Format" > "Page"
3. Go to the tab "Background"
4. Choose any colour as the background (do not choose white or "no fill"
because you will not see the difference when the document is opened by
Microsoft Word)
5. Click OK
6. Go to "Menu" > "File" > "Save As"
7. Go to directory where you want to save the document
8. Click any file name that you want in the field "File Name"
9. Click on the box "File Type" and choose "Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP (.doc)"
as the file type
10. Go to "Menu" > "File" > "Close" to close the file
11. There would be a pop-up warning asking, "Saving in external formats may
have caused information loss. Do you still want to close?" Then, you click
on "Yes"
12. Open the file again by going to "Menu" > "File" > "Open"
13. Go to directory where you saved the file and choose that file
14. Click on "Open"
15. The file will be opened and you will see that the background is gone

I think this bug has been deferred by the developer. The warning telling some
information might be lost if it is saved to external format has been given to
the user.

...should have gone to hbrinkm, referring to MBA's comment from Thu Aug 30
09:36:12 +0000 2007.
Comment 8 michael.ruess 2008-06-05 08:39:29 UTC
Made the summary more meaningful than "saving problems"... ;-)
BTW, issue 74266 maybe a duplicate of this here.
