Description mjevans 2003-01-29 15:37:52 UTC
1. Load styles should have option to prune existing styles. When I load from
another file, typically I want the current document to be left with ONLY those
styles. Whatever styles it has presently should be replaced or deleted. As I
understand the present system, there is no "prune" option, only "augment."

2. Deleting multiple styles is hard and tedious. There is no way to select
multiple styles for deletion.

3. The Organizer seems tuned more for templates than documents. What I would
like is a side-by-side organizer view of styles in documents A and B with the
ability to move between them, much like a dual-pane disk file browser. This
Organizer need not distinguish between templates and documents.

I have to agree with OP on this one. It is easier to standardise documents
within an organization if there are not a multitude of extra styles to choose from.

In my personal writing functions, I hate having to keep track of a multitude of
styles and try to decide which one is "correct" for the situation. I'd rather
define them as I go.

Who is OP, and do your remarks agree or disagree with mine. I am not following,
sorry.

I agree with the original poster on most or if not all points and wish to
clarify/extend my comments with the following:

The only style that should be permanent is the 'Default' style; all others
should be candidates for deletion per user's requirements.

It would be much easier to standardise a document within an organization if a
document could be left only with those styles which are actually necessary, as
opposed to the plethora of styles PLUS the user defined styles as per the
current system.

For my personal use, I also like to keep the number of styles to a manageable
minimum.

points 2 and 3 could be considered as enhancements. issue 20073, which has
already been started might address this also.
Comment 6 drivingmenuts 2005-02-19 04:31:10 UTC
Issue 20073 seems to deal somewhat with points 2 and 3 from an organization
standpoint, but it doesn't address the problem of not being able to delete the
unkillable built-in styles.

A better solution might be install the styles as part of the default install,
but have the option to leave them out if you don't want them. At any rate, they
need to be removable, just as any user-defined style is.
