Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 111229
tabstops on TOC are no fully functional (do not suupport right and middle alignment)
Last modified: 2014-04-03 08:44:47 UTC
When creating a TOC you can insert tabstops between entries, but these tabstops have not the whole functionality they have on paragraph styles. For instance, if you select “Align to the right” the following element will be aligned to the right of the page, not to the right of the tabstop itself. Usercase: I want to set up a TOC in which the chapter numbers are aligned this way (the underscore represent a space to show alignment): ... __9___Chapter _10___Chapter but now I can only obtain the following ... _9____Chapter _10___Chapter by adding to TOC's tabstops the same alignment capabilities you find on paragraph's tabstops this would be easy to accomplish with an arrangement like this one: T E# T E T # with the first "T" aligned to the right of the tabstop itself, the second to the left and the last one to the right of the page. Only workaround I found is to NOT use the chapter numbers on the TOC, but to set "index 1" paragraph style to use a numbering style properly aligned that mimic chapter numbers. But this workaround is painful if you have several outline levels.

If the tab characters inserted according to the index entry configuration would follow the tab stop configuration supplied by the paragraph style, this issue would be solved, and the entry layout would be far more flexible. The paragraph style already handles all the other formatting, why not the tab stops (position, alignment, fill char) as well?
Please attach example.
Created attachment 83064 [details] Several TOCs that show the problem, plus how TOC should look like See description in the document: three TOCs are build as example and a "pseudo TOC" shows how TOC should look like.
