Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 112282
Typing texts with many formulas: in and out issue (the problem of speed).
Last modified: 2010-06-10 16:41:46 UTC
Pre: I'm trying to use OOo to type some lectures in e-form. The lectures have many formulas and to be realistic, I'll that I can only do this if I can do this fast (too much things to write and to learn at the same time, you know). So, The issue: The problem is that I don't know how and after posting in the forum (http:// user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=31311) suspect that it's impossible to a) exit the formula editor fast and b) edit a formula fast. I mean that I can set hot keys for the inserting of a formula into the text, but as I understand it is impossible to set hot keys for exiting the formula editor and re-enter to a formula made previously by, say, pushing ctrl+left when a cursor is right after the formula or smth like that. b) is not that important while a) is vital: when I need to use my mouse each time I need to return to the text from formula it slows me down just to much. So correct me if I'm wrong about possibilities; and here is a quite important issue for those who use formulas. Additional note: I've got to notice that making and exiting the formula is now slow too, even without the mouseclicking problem. Perhaps it is not correct to mix these two things into one issue, so I just mention it.
You can exit a formula using the ESC key. A formula can be selected with Shift-F4 and then activated with ENTER. Is that what you are looking for?
Created attachment 69909 [details] File with some formulas. Try to press some "Shift-F4" and watch the selection.
As for ESC, yeah, great, thanks! Sorry for stupidness, I should try evident variants. I just haven't found it in menus. As for Shift-F4, it works a bit weird. I've just created a document where I've placed some formulas and Shift-F4 somewhy selects not the nearest formula but one exact formula in a line (not depending on where the cursor is in the line) and next "Shift-F4" selects a formula in the next line. I'll add the document de bene esse (but it doesn't contain anything unusual, just some "formulas" and text).
