Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 112690
Cannot open files in Finder with umlauts in name
Last modified: 2010-06-28 06:44:36 UTC
OOo 3.2.1 under Mac OS X 10.5.8 cannot open ODT files whose name contains an umlaut, e.g. BP Markübersicht.odt If the umlaut (ü) is replaced with "ue", it works.
I can't confirm. I've double clicked a file called 'Ätsch' in finder and it works like charm. How did you try to open? Please give some more details of your system.
which locale do you use ?
The following information from Disk Utility about the file system might be relevant: Format : Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled) I tried to open the file from the Desktop by double-clicking on it. I get the following error message: /Users/steve/Desktop/BP Marktübersicht.odt does not exist. I changed the name of the file to Ätsch.odt and got the same message ("Ätsch" instead of "BP Marktübersicht", of course). I get the same error if I try to open the file via File > Open or the introductory "Open a document..." or from the command line via "open Ätsch.odt". If I create an empty text document and try to save it as "Ätsch.odt", a file called "%C4tsch.odt" is created. Double-clicking on that opens the file correctly. In System Preferences > International > Language, I have the following settings: British English English Deutsch Français ... (several others) In Terminal, LANG=en_GB.UTF-8 . I'm running Mac OS X 10.5.8 on an Intel iMac 2.33 GHz Core 2 Duo with 3 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. What further information would you like?
DUP of Issue 105047?
I read the other issue. It looks similar. I'm sorry I didn't see it before I posted this one. I wasn't aware of the Mac OS X locale command. This is its output: LANG="en_GB.UTF-8" LC_COLLATE="en_GB.UTF-8" LC_CTYPE="en_GB.UTF-8" LC_MESSAGES="en_GB.UTF-8" LC_MONETARY="en_GB.UTF-8" LC_NUMERIC="en_GB.UTF-8" LC_TIME="en_GB.UTF-8" LC_ALL= It has in common with the other issue that we are both using British English...
I've found out what's causing the problem. The locale is set under Mac OS X using System Preferences > International > Formats If I set the region to United Kingdom, everything in the Formats form is reset to UK values. I can then double-click on Ätsch.otf, and it opens correctly in Open Office. However, I live in Switzerland and I want the currency to be Swiss Francs. If I leave the region as UK but change the currency to Swiss Francs, double-clicking on Ätsch.otf no longer works.
It's duplicate to issue 105047 *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 105047 ***
Thank you for findings and helping.
