Description jonseverinsson 2010-07-20 19:48:55 UTC
If someone use the English version of Openoffice.org to create a document using
both the "Heading" and "Title" built-in styles, and I then open it in the
Swedish version of Openoffice.org the two styles will be merged into one style
named "Rubrik". "Rubrik" will only have the settings from "Title", not those
from "Heading", not even those "Title" inherits from "Heading", but all other
styles that normally inherits from "Heading" will inherit from "Rubrik", and
thus get completely wrong inherited settings.

This is highly related to issue 56095.

I can reproduce the problem, but the suggested explanation is wrong, though. It's the OOO program logic which's to blame. Looking at the ODF file components, the stylesheet (styles.xml) happens to contain correct style definitions, the inheritance ("linked to style") included.

It's the OOO logic that seems to process style inheritance logic based on styles' translated names, not on stored key names (English). Stylist shows single entry for such multiple similarly translated stylenames, too.

The ODF file attached above was created using the English language version of OOo, and is of course correct. If you were to save it using a Swedish OOo and then open it using an English OOo it would show the same symptoms, as the two styles would have been merged in the (new) odt file.

Attaching the result of such a roundtrip.

I can't reproduce the bug.
Are you still facing this problem "Translation of both "Heading" and "Title" to "Rubrik" is causing trouble with styles"?

This Issue requires more information ('needmoreinfo'), but has not been updated
within the last year. Please provide feedback as requested and re-test with the
the latest version of OpenOffice - the problem(s) may already be addressed.

You can download Apache OpenOffice 3.4.1 from
http://www.openoffice.org/download

Please report back the outcome of your testing, so this Issue may be closed or
progressed as necessary - otherwise the issue may be Resolved as Invalid in the
future.

RESOLVED as FIXED is only for bugs that were previously CONFIRMED, a developer grabbed the bug, fixed it, committed the code, and the fix is verified in a build.

So, changing from UNCONFIRMED to RESOLVED as FIXED does not make sense.

The bug can be tested with the following:

1. in the en-US user interface create a Writer document
2. Create a paragraph, set style: Title
3. Create another paragraph, set style: Subtitle
4. Create another paragraph, set style: Heading
5. Create another paragraph, set style: Heading 1
6. Save the document
7. Close OO and install the language pack for sv
8. set the user interface language to sv
9. Restart OO to apply the change
10. open the writer document in the sv user interface
11. F11 to open Styles and Formatting. Select Hierarchical view
12. Put the cursor in the first paragraph (style in English: Title), in sv the style is named Titel
13. Put the cursor in the third paragraph (style in English: Heading), in sv the style is named Rubrik

Conclusion: Title and Heading are translated with different terms in OpenOffice 3.4.1: Titel and Rubrik

Closing as irreproducible.
The bug should have been fixed in the road from 3.2 to 3.4.
