Description algaja 2010-08-16 05:15:07 UTC
Moving cells by dragging makes the program crash without warning.

I select the cells by dragging the mouse with left-click (happens with any
number of cells, either one or more). Then I click on the selected cells and
drag them to another desired location on the spreadsheet. When I release the
mouse button, the program crashes without any warning or saving the data.

I have the same problem actually in Writer also... when I select text and want
to drag it to another place in the document, the whole thing just shuts down.

This is extremely worrying, since I use drag and drop very often and often data
is lost because I haven't noticed to save it before dragging. Please help!

NOT reproducible with "Ooo-Dev 3.3.0 multilingual version English UI WIN XP:
[OOo330m1 (Build 9514)]"!

@algaja:
Is your OOo version an original OOo version or from your Linux distributor?
Can you please try 3.2?
Please attach a sample document and an exact step by step instruction how to
reproduce the effect.
That is a new effect for you? Did you already try to repair your OOo installation?

I'm sorry, I'm not that clever on computers...

< Is your OOo version an original OOo version or from your Linux distributor?

I do not know.

< Can you please try 3.2?

How do I do that?

< Please attach a sample document and an exact step by step instruction how to
reproduce the effect.
1. I select the cells by marking them with mouse (dragging over them, they turn
blue)
2. I grab hold of the cells with a mouse click
3. I drag the cells to another desired location on the spreadsheet
4. I let go of the cells
5. Program crashes (together with all other OOo programs: writer etc)

< That is a new effect for you? Did you already try to repair your OOo
installation?

It has happened before in OOoWriter with moving text. Just last night everything
seemed to work fine... but suddenly now it started crashing. I havent tried to
repair anything.

Maybe something has to do with the fact that I save the documents in MS Word and
MS Exel format?? I tried saving in .ods format now, but the problem stayed the same.

Sorry to be bothering!
I thought this was the place to let you know that the product is not working
properly and should be fixed. The problem I described is in my opinion quite a
serious one, since moving text/cells around in a document is something everyone
does on a daily basis and if this makes the whole thing crash then it's no good
using the program at all, is it?!

<< Can you please try 3.2?

What about downloading the most recent version and updating it? Or deinstall the
3.1 version, delete everything of OOo (e.g., "/opt/openoffice.org*" and
"~/.openoffice*") and install from scratch.

< I thought this was the place to let you know that the product is not working
properly and should be fixed.

That's OK but it is necessary to get the issue reproduced. Otherwise it's not a
general issue that others can hit. And then there is nothing that can be fixed
in the source.

So, first of all please ask others to try this. For this the OOo forums are a
good start.

@reporter:
Please feel free to reopen this issue if you find out that the problem still
exists in the latest release of OOo and if you can provide requested additional
information.
