Description jstro 2010-10-07 04:08:05 UTC
Documents saved as .doc will not upload to SmashWords or to Writers of the
Future. Both sites report they cannot parse the file. I tried exporting the
manuscripts with all the .doc options and none of them would load at SmashWords.
I only tried the 97/2000/XP option at Writers of the Future.

Once the documents are loaded into MS Word and re-saved then they upload to
these sites without any problem at all. I'm not sure if this is an error in OO
export or if there are undocumented calls in the Word format that cannot be
incorporated, but it is a huge problem for writers who submit to these major
websites.

Unfortunately I cannot provide the documents as these are unpublished manuscripts.

As you were able to load the .doc files in MS Word it shows me that the most
important part (file exchange with load/save between MS Office and OOo programs)
is working fine. When other programs or services have problems while
reading/processing the same .doc files from OOo, then I guess that something has
to be done on their side.

And without having the .doc files we cannot do anything. ;-)

Same root cause as issue 103545.

Yes, I realized it would be very difficult to investigate this problem without
the original documents. Sorry I am not a liberty to share them. I just wanted
you to be aware of the problem, as there are many writers who use these sites
and will end up abandoning OO due to this issue. It caused me to go out and buy
MS Word, though I still use OO as my main word processor.
