Description gunste 2010-11-21 23:23:30 UTC
A number of pictures in OO Writer 3.2.1 run with OS Windows XP fail to remain on
opage to which they are anchored. Several pictures move after anchoring and
saving the document. This repeats in successive versions, where the picture
moves 3 or 4 pages away.
Anchoring to page or paragraph makes no difference. When I shave all pictures in
place and Export as PDF, the odds are that the several of the pictures moves
more than one page into unrelated text.

Attach a sample document showing the problem.
Specify if this happens when saving to odt or an other format or when exporting
to PDF.
Comment 2 eric.savary 2010-11-22 04:15:42 UTC
...and check if this still happens in a current DEV 3.3 version.
Comment 3 gunste 2010-11-22 17:03:48 UTC
The picture moves occurred primarily during saving of the document. I did export
as .pdf it and found that there was no picture movement on second try. The
picture that moved actually ended up superimposed on another one. I could cut
and paste it back into position. - The one picture that moved most frequently
was a portrait on the first page of a document which contained only the title
and picture (anchored to page).
Other pictures moved around slightly on the page, occasionally slipping to the
very edge of the page, beyond the set margin, away from their titles which had
been typed separately.
By repeating the checks for position of pictures (in a 225 page document with
many photos) I finally got a version without errors for exporting to PDF.

[I do not seem to be able to add the picture page here.]

In which format do you save the document? In .odt or perhaps in .doc format?
If it is too large to attach here, please send directly to mru@openoffice.org.
Comment 5 gunste 2010-11-23 17:51:49 UTC
I use OO because I consider it better in many respects than WORD. Therefore, I
save all my working documents and revisions as .odt files.
	- It almost appears that when the document is brought up the pictures are under
separate control from the text.
They appear to be inserted at times in slightly different spots, not at the
right margin as originally set, but an inch or so to the center, dividing the
text. Others move by 3-4 pages, and are superimposed on other pictures or text
sections.
Since I do not understand how the different parts of a document are loaded or
saved, this remains a puzzle.

We cannot reproduce the problem without having your sample document. Our test
documents work fine here with lots of graphics. Feel free to reopen the issue
when you can provide sample document to us. Thanks for your patience.

Open Office 3.2.1 Problems experienced multiple times.

[This problem was closed for lack of examples now supplied. The picture moving
was first observed in the
exported PDF document, but the problem actually arose in saving the .odt
document, before conversion..]

A 225 page document was composed and a good many photographs were added.
All pictures were "ANCHORED" to the page or a paragraph, as appropriate.
The document was set up with footers and page numbers were added.
Pages were numbered normally and complete at one point.
When there was a jpg item added which occupied most of a page,
a manual page break was inserted.
The document was saved at intervals and before closing.

The following problems were encountered repeatedly:
1. Document looked great till I hit save and then a number of the pictures seem to
go wherever they want too.. very frustrating,
   - One one chapter first page, with a title and a picture, that picture would
routinely move 2-5 pages away.
   - Some pictures ended up on top of others, skewed a few pages away [see
IMG 113 & 114]
   - some pictures disappeared entirely and had to be pasted back in !!!
They were no longer in the document, though they had been anchored to a page.

2. Page breaks that were inserted were ignored. Text moved to fill in spaces
below .jpg insertions
that occupied ~90% of the page and had a page break added to preclude what
happened. Pictures also moved. [Img 115]

3. The pagination was perfect at one point. After saving and reopening the
document, page numbers were missing.
Re-installing page number per instructions in the HELP file replaced some of
the page numbers through 115 the remaining
Footers which should have shown page numbers were blank. (115/225 pages
numbered.)
Currently the pagination is incomplete. Starting at the first page without a
number, one can add a number,
but apparently not for the entire document to the end.

4. Two pages were added to the document most recently. SAVE.
On reopening the next day, those two pages were in the middle of the
document., inserted into other text.
    Totally out of place.

Note: I have observed at least one other comment of pictures moving, but in .PDF
documents.

I have copied and pasted a 47 segment from that document for another purpose and
find that the "picture migration" does not occur.
That leads to thee suspicion that OO 3.2.1 cannot handle a document of 85 MB
and maintain its integrity.
Comment 13 michael.ruess 2010-12-01 12:02:16 UTC
Some screenshots won't help us, please submit the document which looks correct
and tell us where we have to add pictures. Then we can reproduce the issue. Thanks.

NOTE for attachment "Book 2 extracted .odt": This did not copy as it was
observed in the Master Document and all of the "jumbled" misplaced .jpg files
have disappeared. At least six items has disappeared.

OK, you work with page-anchored graphics in a Master Document... this is the
same problem as described in issue 94319.
