Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 115801
"content.xml" file must not be case sensitive
Last modified: 2010-12-03 13:21:08 UTC
When "content.xml" is named "Content.xml", the ODT file isn't readable anymore and needs to be repaired systematically.

According to the ODF specification, "content.xml" must be in lowercase letters. So, an ODF file which contains a "Content.xml" is not valid, and it is a nice service of OOo that it repairs such files. It could also reject them.

The problem is that Windows is NOT case sensitive, so when renaming from "Content.xml" to "content.xml", it keeps the upper case silently. Change of ODT specification has not been well "advertised". We spent a great deal of time to find that it was the cause of our problems.
The ODF specification has not changed in this regard since ODF 1.0. But OpenOffice.org is checking these things better now.
