Description Frédéric Buclin 2011-02-28 10:37:07 UTC
It looks like the upgrade from Issuezilla 2.11 to Bugzilla 3.2.9 messed the email preferences for all users. My own email prefs were turned off, i.e. I was getting no bugmail anymore, and when I commented in another bug, the default assignee got not bugmail at all either.

Someone should investigate.

These are two different problems:
- The preferences for a user are set to BZ default and not migrated. You may want to adapt this to your choice.
- Notifications to default assignees (esp. issues@<project>, i.e. the list) are excluded.
The latter is the issue to be resolved.

The default assignee issues@www receives notifications now.
Please let us know if you need further help with a change of your personal preferences.

We have enabled email-notification by default, except some internal accounts. Each user can change them by http://openoffice.org/bugzilla/userprefs.cgi?tab=email for email-notification.

The default values for each preference will apply to all users who do not choose their own value, and to anyone who is not logged in. Feel free to change your preferred defaults.

fma: why did you impersonate my account an hour ago?

Email preferences are supposed to be correctly migrated when upgrading from one version of Bugzilla to a newer one. Unless the Issuezilla to Bugzilla migration didn't include them in the process.
Comment 5 Frédéric Buclin 2011-03-08 16:02:29 UTC
Also, about email preferences: they are turned *on* by default upstream. So it looks like the migration process deleted them all. This is annoying, because a lot of people won't notice the problem till they expect an email and never got it. (Imagine you ask the reporter of a bug to provide more details, but he never gets you question/comment.)

So this bug is not about my own preferences, which I know how they work, but for all users as a whole.

Can't agree with your theory, in case of analyzing all settings only a few users had set them by own (17 users of all). Just in case of my own setting, I haven't changed them and I got email notifications depending on the default settings in BZ, same for some other test-accounts of mine. Can't reproduce, sorry

I impersonate your account because of verifying this issue related to your settings. Sorry for bothering you by this, but in my eyes it was a little bit easier and more transparent for me to see your settings in BZ as in the database.

Tacking down notification problems with other accounts I stumbled over the same problem for

Reset QA Contact to new default
Comment 9 hans_werner67 2011-03-28 15:11:17 UTC
Fixed by setting defaults for a new added user in BZ for the migrated users (if not set before).

In detail:
- getting default email-settings for a new registered user
- apply the default setting to all migrated users without email-settings

Should work also for the stx00.... of the world, pls. verify

thanks; verified...

getting rid of value "enhancement" for field "severity".
For enhancement the field "issue type" shall be used.
