Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 11854
edit/create nested ole in ole - can't create embeded chart in embeded spreadsheet
Last modified: 2013-02-24 21:20:00 UTC
embeded chart unable to use embeded spreadsheet data I embeded a spreadsheet into openoffice... and selected the data area... and the embed chart button is greyed out! This is lame! possible fixes: actually have full spread sheet functionality in that little spreadsheet window and or have a way to reference peer objects. actually embed a full spreadsheet file into the regular file, complete with capabilities to have child objects... Then make it so that there is a generic open office file, and then be able to open in as a spreadsheet or drawing or writer as appropriate. or make it so that one can at least edit the fields in the "chart data" box that comes up when editing it. ps, I did try to search the database for this bug... but it is completely unobvious how to do it. Sorry for the duplicate if it is one. I was seething mad when I tried to do my homework and then had to reinput all of my data by hand... multiple times because of this not working right.
Hi Bettina, one for you. tk

I wish I could help, Does star office 7 have this functionality? This product would become extremely usefull to me even if I could just copy the whole area from a spread sheet, as to not have to retype all of the information. This seems like a really tough thing to do, however it would give a much enhansed report capability, and make draw a capable MS Publisher replacement.
Reassigned to Ingrid.
->Hi Mathias. We have a lack of functionality here. Have there already been thoughts started around this? I found two other related issues with unclear state: Issue 22954 is about not editable formulas in spreadsheets or drawings in writer Issue 27439 suggests to offer a possibility to edit OLE objects in a separate window to work around missing functionality

Actually all issues have the same problem: we can't handle objects activated inside objects. *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 7635 ***
