Description ed 2003-02-27 07:30:52 UTC
When executing a cvs diff operation on the entire repository via the secure cvs server (*not* anoncvs), the command fails with a signal 11 in product. Error messages seem to indicate that the repository may be corrupted, or that something may need to be fixed as a result of the failed operation. This has been verified to occur on different branches as well by at least two people.

On OOO_STABLE_1 the following command causes the signal with 11: cvs diff -u -D "08/26/2002"

It fails for both unified and regular diffs (omitting the -u). On the PORTS branch the same command fails. The error message reported from cvs is the following:

Terminated with fatal signal 11
Core dumped; preserving /tmp/cvs-serv22968 on server.
CVS locks may need cleaning up.

This occurs after the package module has been processed. The error messages are unclear as to if the error is in package or may be in a later module.

Hi, Martin,
Any progress on this? It seems to be holding back some development of
the OS X port.... My understanding is that signal 11s are often
hardware relaed (http://www.bitwizard.nl/sig11/); if so, this can be
raised with collabnet asap.
best,

Note: suggested workaround is to create two separate checkouts, one at latest date one at desired date and to use regular diff -n utility to generate cross diffs.

thus far there has been no confirmation of this cvs diff issue on cvs clients other then os x, so it is still unclear as to whether the issue is with the cvs server or the os x (10.2.x) cvs client.

hm, this still occurs, even on a cvsup mirror.
Comment 5 Martin Hollmichel 2005-04-27 14:16:16 UTC
tested again and now it is working.

Closing. Not a MacOSX issue. CVS is working and soon to be replaced with
Subversion.
