when entering a ruled line using multiple hyphens it proves difficult to delete these lines after
Using OpenOffice.org 3.3.0 and OOo-dev 3.4.0 in Windows 7 To remove a Horizontal Rule: 1. Place the cursor above the horizontal rule. 2. Select Paragraph from the Format menu. 3. Select the Borders tab in the Paragraph dialog box. 4. In the "Line arrangement" frame at the left of the dialog, note how the "User defined" box demonstrates the appearance and location of the paragraph border. Select the left most box under the word "Default". Note how the border in the "User defined" box is removed. 5. Select OK. The horizontal rule should be removed.
I have successfully reproduced this bug under the following configurations: Configuration1 OOo-dev: OOO340m0 (Build:9583) Operating system: Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 (11D50b) Memory: 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 Processor: 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Configuration2 OpenOffice.org 3.3.0: OOO330m20 (Build:9567) Operating system: Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 (11D50b) Memory: 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 Processor: 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo I was unable to locate duplicates of this bug in the Apache Bugzilla system. Steps to reproduce 1 Close OOo-dev, if open 2 Launch OOo-dev or OpenOffice.org application 3 From the "File" menu, select File -> New -> Text Document 4 Type 3 dashes: "---" and press <enter> to create a Horizontal Rule 5 Press <delete> 6 Horizontal rule is not deleted I would have expected this horizontal rule to be deleted after the last Step to reproduce. Follow up test 1 1 Close OOo-dev / OpenOffice.org application, if open 2 Execute steps to reproduce 3 Press <enter> 4 Another horizontal rule is created 5 Press <enter> 6 Yet another horizontal rule is created Each time I pressed <return>, I expected the cursor to have moved to the next line, pushing the horizontal rule further down the page. I did not expect an additional horizontal rule to be created each time I pressed <enter>. Follow up test 2 1 Close OOo-dev / OpenOffice.org application, if open 2 Launch OOo-dev / OpenOffice.org application 3 From the OOo-dev / OpenOffice.org application splash screen, click on "Text Document" 4 From the menu bar, select Insert -> Horizontal Ruler 5 Click "Plain" 6 Click OK 7 Press <enter> 8 Press <enter> Each time I pressed <return>, I expected the cursor to have moved to the next line, pushing the horizontal rule further down the page. I did not expect an additional horizontal rule to be created each time I pressed <enter>. Why might this be an important bug to fix? Document authors do utilize the horizontal rule in order to provide logical separation of segments of a given document. Given that OpenOffice appears to position itself as a professional-grade word processing solution, I think addressing this bug will improve the usefulness of the software for its users, and help present the software as a professional-grade platform in the market. This bug may simply be a matter of cursor positioning after insertion of the horizontal rule document element. I did try creating and deleting horizontal rules in Google Docs. When a horizontal rule is inserted in GoogleDocs Documents, the cursor is placed after the horizontal rule, enabling an easy deletion.
