Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 122491
[sidebar] - Properties - Position and Size: POSITION info fields missing
Last modified: 2017-05-20 10:15:08 UTC
Created attachment 80790 [details] Higlighted Rectangle shows missing position section While executing AOOTest-1511 (writer). In Position and Size section, postion section (Vertical and Horizontal) missing from sidebar when Drawing Object or Text Box was inserted. Steps to Reproduce: 1) New a document. 2) Insert a drawing object, or a text box. 3) Modify position of object via sidebar. Actual Results: Position cannot be modified because position section missing from sidebar. Expected Results: Position(Vertical and Horizontal) should be modified correctly. Build Date & Hardware: Build: AOO 4.0 Rev. 1489073 OS: windows 7
Reproducible with server installation of "AOO 4.0.0-Dev – English UI / German locale [AOO400m1(Build:9700) - Rev. 1484333 Rev.1483903 (2013-05-20)]" on WIN7 Home Premium (64bit)", own separate user profile: Properties -> Position and Size only shows Size and Rotation, but not position. That's ok in DRAW, where Poisition is a simple x/y Inherited from Symphony (I tested Release 3.0.1 Revision 20120110.2000). May be that limitation was intended because necessary dashboard would be too big for sidebar?
oops!
At the moment I can only say, that this is a design decision or implementation requirement (on you do voluntarily, the other is forced on you because of some missing functionality). I can not say which. So, it works as it was implemented but obviously not as expected :-)
The Writer does not handle position and size like in Draw or Impress. In Writer position is defined relative to an anchor and that anchor is position relative to text on a page or to the page itself. Providing controls for the position would require a completely different panel.

This is true. Please compare "Position and Size" dialog in Writer with the one in Draw or Impress. You can open this dialog by opening the context menu for an selected object and choose the "Position and Size..." entry.
