Description Mike A. 2013-07-07 19:56:53 UTC
Using Firefox 22 configured to ask where to put each download doesn't work. The OO file is placed in C:\Documents and Settings\mike alterman\Local Settings\Temp automatically - a bit confusing to me. I tried other downloads and I get a pop-up asking where to save file.

In Firefox, go to Tools, Options, General tab to set the download location.

From http://www.openoffice.org/download/other.html select english (us), Linux Intel DEB.

Thought you should be aware of issue.

I'm in the process of switching from winxp pro sp3 to ubuntu 12.04 .

Thanks.

I don't know how a download can influence the behavior how the browser is saving the file. On Linux I cannot reproduce the reported issue. Is someone able to reproduce it on Windows?

@Mike:
Have you seen this behavior also with our websites?

My test reshots:

For WIN with Seamonkey browser it works fine:
<http://sourceforge.net/projects/openofficeorg.mirror/?source=dlp>
I click the "Download" button, what leads to
<http://sourceforge.net/projects/openofficeorg.mirror/files/latest/download?source=dlpA>.
Auto-Forward leads to
<http://sourceforge.net/projects/openofficeorg.mirror/files/latest/download?source=dlp>, from where after a short moment the normal browser message "what do you want to do with AOO_incubating_3.4.1.....exe" Message appears, and the suggested page is the one to where I downloaded latest file from that source.

More or less the same following reporter's download link to English / WIN.

But the link for Linux-Intel-DEB seemed to ignore settings, The WIN files Explorer immediatelyy opens to save the document.

But the WIN download is for a .exe, the linux download for a tar.gz, so this means nothing.

I will do some more tests with a blank new browser profile.

Everything as expected for me with Seamonkey 2.17 and a new blank user profile on WIN7, for every download the dialog asking what I want to do and where I want to save.

I am pretty sure that user's problem is not caused by SourceForge, but by browser settings.

@Mike A:
Please report your results with a blank new browser profile. Please be more precise (What Lionux-DEB? 64 bit or 32bit? ENUS or EN-GB?) in your report, and tell every mouse click an every key press.

@ Rainer What do you mean by 'a new blank user profile'?

> What do you mean by 'a new blank user profile'?

@Mike A.:
Please create a new one due to
<http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles?esab=a&s=delete+user+profile&r=1&as=s>
and try again.
Comment 7 Mike A. 2013-07-20 17:45:44 UTC
@ Rainer - I'm baffled, your suggestion to create a new profile allows me to save any version of OO English - US to a desired location. Note; I had to change the default location from download to always ask under options.

Thanks for your help.

I'm going to post a note to Firefox forum.

Mike
PS; if the forum administrators want to keep this open, I'll let you know the outcome of the firefox discussion.
