I am simply not getting the red underlines when I misspell. Have looked at the settings many times, this has only happened for me with the last update 4.0.0

What is the content of Tools - Extension Manager...?
Is AutoSpellcheck icon in Standard toolbar enabled?

the only thing in extensions is the English Spelling any hyphenation dictionaries and thesaurus 2013.07.31
AutoSpellcheck icon in Standard toolbar is enabled

The issue is now resolved, not sure why but it is. Sorry to trouble.
