Description aditsu 2013-09-12 17:42:11 UTC
Somebody called Rob Weir is removing target milestones for a lot of bugs, possibly all the bugs I ever reported or voted for, *including closed ones*, which is causing a large number of unimportant emails to be sent my way. What is the point of this?
Comment 1 Edwin Sharp 2013-09-13 08:52:36 UTC
Apologies.
He should have removed CCs when doing so.
Comment 2 Rainer Bielefeld 2013-09-14 17:25:39 UTC
> He should have removed CCs when doing so.

That would not help, because CCs will be informed of the removal. I'm afraid there is no way to avoid such mails in mass changes with acceptable costs.

Rob's intention is very comprehensible, we want to get rid of inappropriate or wrong TMs, also in Closed bugs, where they make queries unreliable.

Not a bug!

The last contributions before this one has been in 2006, and those few 5 E-Mails you got because of the TM modifications are not an appropriate reason to steal busy people's time. You are no longer active, so simply modify your
<https://issues.apache.org/ooo/userprefs.cgi?tab=email> to "Disable all E-Mail"
And for questions please use <http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/> or <http://www.openoffice.org/support/>.

And last but not least, if you still are interested in improving AOO, you are welcome - I see some interesting Bug Reports you did "in the early days"

The root cause of the mail flood was analyzed in
http://mail-archives.apache.org/mod_mbox/openoffice-dev/201309.mbox/%3cCAP-ksojiXwyaNWw7y3A5nQOWUh8kLPssTq4EakLuR8u0HL8ceg@mail.gmail.com%3e
and there was no malice whatsoever involved. If everyone strived to provide constructive work and the same level of transparency as this project does then the world would be a better place.

@aditsu
So may be my assumption "those few 5 E-Mails " might have been wrong.
Comment 5 aditsu 2013-09-16 09:45:56 UTC
Thanks for looking into it. Weird, I only got a notification email about comment 3 (and just now, 4) of this bug - erring on the side of caution?

Rainer: Maybe not a bug per se, but it's something that happened and it shouldn't have. I got at least 8 emails (I'm sure many other people got a lot more), I'm not trying to steal busy people's time (as if I could use it for my own gain...), but just reporting a problem that should be fixed / prevented from happening again. If reporting problems == stealing people's time, then you should consider closing down bugzilla.
Also I don't consider myself "active" or "inactive", I report bugs as I encounter them in whatever program I use. If a bug gets fixed 10 years later, I still want to hear about it.

hdu: Thanks for the link. I didn't really think it was intentional/malicious. Glad to see the issue was explained.
