Description ma 2013-09-25 16:26:33 UTC
I am using Openoffice 4.0 on my Core i3 with 4GB of RAM and Windows 8 x64.

When I import a picture being 11MB of size to impress (i.e. http://cdn.conversations.nokia.com.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/ALV_NOK_2__20130702_09_55_07_Pro__highres.jpg), it takes really long (approx 20 seconds) to process. When I decide to rotate it, it takes another 10 seconds until that action is completed (meanwhile, LibreOffice is not responding whatsover).

Compared to that, with Kingsoft Office and MS Office 2013 (and even Office XP) this actions only take 1-2 seconds.

I've already set the graphics-cache to 200MB without any change.

This is a real showstopper for using OpenOffice for me.

ALG: Please check with the soon released AOO401; I did some changes and a short comparison on my machine showed 7s load compared to 10s, immediate rotation possible and much faster zooming/scrolling.
Load time could still be improved, but would need deeper changes then, internal infos: the jpeg loader imports to an own buffer, copied to (class) Bitmap's internal buffer, GDI system dependent/independent created, then GDI+ created. Parts are system-dependent, parts are not (we support not just win, so e.g. not possible to use MS's jpeg importer to get GDI+ object directly). A lot of space for improvements...

OpenOffice build 1525917: 6s
LibreOffice 4.1.1.2: 8s
MS PowerPoint 2013: 2s
KingSoft Office 9.1: 3s

Core i3 with 4GB of RAM and Windows 8 x64.

Great to see immediate rotation, it's a big improvement! Now if loadtime would improve more, that'd be great.

ALG: I have an idea about a deep core change which would enable this, but it would be a *deep* change with all the risks and time. First I'll have to finish other stuff in the pipeline (aw080...). Grepping to keep in focus, but not sure when there will be time. Importance 'major' is okay for me (sinc eI would like to do stuff like this), but realistically compared to other/missing stuff/not working stuff (or even crashing stuff) it's not a 'defect' in the sense that something is not working...
