After a freeze of system I get a pop-up saying "Last time you opened OpenOffice, it unexpectedly quit while reopening windows. ..... " etc.
I can't get rid of this pop-up and I can't close OpenOffice without a Force Quit.

This sounds like an instance of bug 119006. For a work around see comment at https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=119006#c5
