OS is Windows 8.1. On 1 particular spreadsheet I am unable to "insert column." OpenOffice dialog box appears with message "Office4.0.1 has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close program and notify if a solution is available."  Windows recovers the file.

Other operations on this particular spreadsheet are functioning. The problem is not reproducible on Other spreadsheets - only occurs on this one. Problem recurs on XLS and ODP versions of the file. 

Spreadsheet is not especially large and contains only numbers. Program was created on MS Excel and did not occur on that program

Might be related to "Bug 123166 - CRASH when Insert>row in particular way in particular document"
In <https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=123166#c30> there already is a suspect that that crash problem also might affect inserting columns

Mr. Sharp: The spreadsheet contains information on my personal investments. I'm reluctant to broadcast that around.  If I send it does it go just to you, or will it distribute to bugzilla community? Can you suggest a compromise?

We can skip the bug reproducing step here, fix is already in progress at "Bug 124033 - CRASH when Insert>column in particular way in document with column break"; I'm sorry, I missed that one. 

@David
Can you do a test with a Developer build from
<http://ci.apache.org/projects/openoffice/#win>? Any Revision later than 1559703 should include the fix.

I recommend a Server installation as described in the Wiki <https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Run_OOo_versions_parallel#Windows>
