Description 7cstat 2014-05-16 20:06:48 UTC
Hi,
Whenever I send ANY form of document from ANY part of OOo, the person on the other end can not read it or edit it yet I do not have "read-only" checked and the file is saved in the proper format that is supposed to be compatible with Microsoft Office. This is severely affecting my work and I did not download this to have issues.

Please contribute information what makes your problem reproducible due to
<http://www.openoffice.org/bugs/bug_writing_guidelines.html>
As a minimum you should attach such an unreadable document here in the bug and may be send a copy to me by e-mail.

Sample document is a PDF with missing filename extension.

Looks like a user error.

@7cstat:
thank you for your feedback! Unfortunately you are wrong here, this is the AOO bug tracking system, not a helpdesk.
You can get assistance at
<http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/>
or here:<http://www.openoffice.org/support/>

If you can't find what's going wrong with your e-mail sending we need much more precise information (f8, f10 can be done later):
a) Write a meaningful Summary describing exactly what the problem is
c) Contribute a step by step instruction containing every
   key press and every mouse click how to reproduce your problem with
   e-mail-sending, starting with "From AOO Start Center open new
   empty Writer document"
d) Attach screenshots with comments if you believe that that might explain the
   problem better than a text comment. Best way is to insert your screenshots
   into a DRAW document and to add comments that explain what you want to show
f) add information
   f1) What File Type your wanted to send
   f2) Whether you wanted to send complete document or part of it
   f3) What E-mail client your use
   f4) concerning your Operating System (Version, Distribution, Language)
   f5) concerning your AOO version (with Build/revision ID if it's not a
      public release) and localization (UI language, Locale setting)
   f6) AOO settings that might be related to your problems
      (Menu 'Tools -> Options -> OO -> General -> Open/Save OO Dialogs?')
   f7) how you launch AOO and how you opened the sample document
   f8) Whether your problem persists after you have renamed your user profile
     (Quit Quickstart before!) before you launch AOO (please see
      <https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/User_Profile#Mac_OS_X>
   f9) Whether that worked in former OOO / AOO Versions
   f10) whether (and how) a competitor's software (MSO, LibreOffice, ...)
        fulfills your needs

Please do not cite these hints in your reply, but cite the items like:
f7): Desktop-icon for soffice.exe / AOO File menu -> Open

Of course it is strange that the document might have been sent without filename extension. For further research reporter's info due to Comment 4 will be required
Comment 6 7cstat 2014-05-19 20:50:34 UTC
I am not wrong here, whenever I send it to a microsoft office user with proper format (.doc; .docx; .xls; .xlsx; .ppt; .pptx) whoever receives it says it is unreadable or corruptable. It is not my fault that you can not accurately tell people what your product is, which is misleading, which is a tort.

resume

Updated the attachment's mime type to application/pdf as it is a perfectly fine PDF file.
