I get the Apache panel and a blank db pane opens for 1/2 a sec then closes - no error mewssage appears. This also happened with 4.0.1 before I installed 4.1.0

Do you have installed a JRE (Java runtime environment) and have told OpenOffice to use it (Tools > Options > OpenOffice > Java)?

There should be a file "biblio.odb" in your OpenOffice user directory and in the installation directory in folder "presets\database" as well. What happens, if you try to open it with double-click or from running OpenOffice via File > Open?
