Description Sergio Callegari 2014-09-11 14:08:53 UTC
Try the following

1) open a new blank AOO impress document
2) Create a first slide with title, content layout and just two lines of text in the text area
* Foo
  - Bar
Assure that as in the example above they are at two different levels
3) Add a second slide similar to the previous one
* Bar
  - Foo
4) View the master pages
5) Add a second master page
6) In the second master page, put the cursor in the bulletted text, call Format-> Bullets and Numbering, go to the customize tab, select level 2, change the character to an "O".
7) Close the master pages
8) Apply to the second slide the style of the second master page.
9) Verify that you have on the first slide
* Foo
  - Bar
and in the second slide
* Bar
  O Foo
10) Save the document
11) Close the document
12) Reopen the document
13) Verify that all the slides and master pages now have the same bullet style.

This may seem trivial, but it is not. In fact, it has to do with the whole of the bullet points formatting including the "positioning"

When preparing slides, one often wants to reuse previous material. If such previous material use different bullet styles, particularly with respect to positioning parameters, it becomes impossible to respect it and the appearance of the slides break.

I was able to reproduce this bug.

The main idea of this bug can be summarized as follows:

1. Create a presentation
2. Create more Slide Master Pages and modify the bullets on the slide masters.
3. Save the presentation
4. Re-open the presentation

Actual Results:
All the modified design on the slide masters is lost. The slide master displays the default design as when it first created.

Expected Results:
All the modified design on the slide masters should be saved.

This is my detailed tests:

Test Environment
   OpenOffice version: 4.1.1 Build
   Operating System: Windows 7

Steps to reproduce the bug

1. Open Impress: start OpenOffice application and Click on presentation icon.

2. Create Empty presentation: From Presentation Wizard, select “Empty presentation” radio button.

3. Add another slide: From the Menu bar, click “Insert” -> click “Slide” (let the presentation have two slides). Each slide with title and text area.

4. Display the slides in normal mode: From Menu bar, click “View” -> click “Normal”

5. Add bulleted lines to both slides: From left Navigation Pane, select the slide then type a text in the text area.
   Slide 1: Add two bulleted lines with two different outline levels (use “Shift-Tab/Tab to ”Promote/Demote the Outline level).
   Slide 2 – Text area: Add two bulleted lines with two different outline levels.

6. View the default slide master: From Menu bar, click “View” -> “Master” -> “Slide Master” The slide master displays the bullets for all outline levels.

7. Add a second slide master: From the left navigation pane, Select the default slide master -> Click on the right mouse button -> Click on “New Master” icon.

8. Modify the bullets on the second slide master:
    - From Master View, Click on the right mouse button -> Click on “Numbering/Bullets…” icon.
    - From Bullets and numbering window, Select “Customize panel” then select the level you want to modify (level “2” for example). Click on Character icon. Then select a character from the special character lightbox and click Ok. Then, click Ok to close the Bullets and numbering window.

9. Apply the second slide master style to the second slide:
   - Select the second slide then click on the right mouse button -> Click on “Slide Design” icon.
   - From Slide Design window, Select the modified design on the second Slide Master and click Ok.

10. Save the presentation: From the Menu bar, click “File” -> click “Save As…”

11. Close the presentation

12. Open Impress and reopen the saved presentation by selecting the “Open existing presentation” radio button. Check the second slide and the design on the second slide master.

Actual Results:
All the modified design on the second slide master is lost. The second slide master now displays the default design as when it first created.

Expected Results:
All the modified design on the second slide masters should be saved.

This is a major bug. The user expects that the new modified design will be saved and will be applied to his slides. He will discover later after reopening his presentation that he lost all his work and efforts.

This bug force users to stick to the default design taking from them all the benefits of using the already designed features.

More investigations showed that this bug is not limited only to the presentations which are created from “Empty presentation”. This bug exists also in the presentations which are created from the other two types (“From Template” and “Open an existing presentation”).

It might be a duplicate of issue 119129.

Instead of step 9 do this:
Go to second slide. In side bar select "Master Pages". In the part "Used in This Presentation" right click on the second master and use item "Apply to selected Slides".

Try again. Are the styles now preserved in save - load?
