Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 126304
Turns on design mode after save as from read only file
Last modified: 2017-05-20 09:52:55 UTC
Windows 7, 64 bit This is how to quickly reproduce this problem: Open a new spreadsheet, type anything in the first cell. Make sure 'Design Mode' is off, save it. Close the file. Go to the save location right click on the file and check 'read only'. Open the file and save as some new name. Design mode will now be 'On' This is a problem in that I have created forms for the office, and unless I explain how to turn design mode off to my non-technical co-workers, they cannot use the form. I want to write protect the original file so that they don't accidentally overwrite it. If the read-only mode is off and they open the file, and do a 'save as' the file, design mode stays off and there is no problem, unless they forget to 'save as' and just hit 'save'
Can confirm this behaviour for Ubuntu 64 bit too. It is independent from the state of "Open in Design Mode" before saving the original document.
Why do a "save as"? If you want a copy of an original document, create a template. Maybe a possible duplicate of issue 108315
A template is not the solution for forms. The document itself must be readonly. But you are right, issue 108315 shows the same problem: toggling document from readonly to writeable. *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of issue 108315 ***
