Over the years there have been MANY bug fixes since version 1.8.1 which is currently shipped with Apache OpenOffice Base. Depreciated version 1.8 is no longer being developed and several critical data corruption bugs were also fixed in the 2.3 series.


Base should ship with the latest version of HSQL, currently running 2.3.3 as of May 2015:

This would also save people from crazy work-arounds like the one described here, running two versions of HSQL to get to the 2.x series:

I agree this could be a minor patch that could go a long way, would need to review what changes is the hsql Base has had to be made for the new version.
