Description srgmskt 2015-11-24 10:29:53 UTC
I save my files in .doc format.
I've found that if a numbered list (including text and numbers) in Open Office is highlighted, after you remove highlighting and save a file, reopen it and you see that highlighting is still present on numbers, text is not affected. And even if you cancel format nothing happens - after you reopen a file highlighting is still present on numbers. If you copy to a new Open Office document even in .odt format the issue is still present.
Please, let me know hot to deal with this issue.

Hardware: Windows 10
Version: 4.1.2 and 4.1.1
I attempted to replicate the bug in borth version 4.1.2 and 4.1.1 and I attempted all of the following tests in both versions.

I started by simply creating a list by selecting the format tab, and then selecting “Bullets and Numbering”. I would then select one the options presented and proceed to write a list of five items. Then I would select over the entire list, highlight it, and then remove the highlight. I would then save the document and then reopen to see if the bug occurred. I saved it in the three varieties of .doc file formats available: “97/200/XP”, “9.5” and “6.0”. However, only the “97/2000/XP” format supported lists while the other two removed the formatting (this is the format all the rest of my testing was done in). In this format I did not see the bug occur.

I repeated these steps for all of the available default list formats given and did not find any instance of the bug.

Then I attempted to highlight and un-highlight a list multiple times, two, three, and four times and then save and reopen the document but did not find the error. I attempted this with all of the available list formats.
I attempted to highlight the list, add text, and then remove the highlight and did not find error occur. I also attempted to add text, then highlight and un-highlight the list but the error still did not occur. I repeated this with all the different available formats.

I then finally attempted to create a list, highlight it, un-highlight it, save the file, re-open the file, highlight and then un-highlight it, save it and then re-open it. I still did not see the bug occur. However it should be noted that when a .doc file is opened, one cannot highlight the entire list but can only highlight the text.

I believe I was able to recreate this highlighting bug in a few different forms. I was able to recreate this on Windows 8 and Windows 7 machines using Open Office version 4.1.2. Attaching screenshots and sample files to recreate the bug.

Steps to recreate With Highlighting on .doc File:

1. Select Numbering Off/On to add numbering then add 1 or more lines of text.
2. Highlight the last character of text on any of the numbered lines and select Highlighting. Only the text highlighted gets the highlighting. If the last character of text is not highlighted then the bug will not reproduce.
3. Save file as Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP (.doc) and close file.
4. Open the file in Open Office Writer and notice how the numbers are now highlighted.
5. Right click on the numbered list and select Default Formatting. Only the text clears the formatting. Optional: You could also try to highlighting the entire list, click on Highlighting and only the text clears the highlighting.

Steps to recreate with Font Coloring on .doc File:

1. Select Numbering Off/On to add numbering then add 1 or more lines of text.
2. Highlight the last character of text on any of the numbered lines and select Color Font then select any color. Only the text highlighted gets colored. If the last character of text is not colored then the bug will not reproduce.
3. Save file as Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP (.doc) and close file.
4. Open the file in Open Office Writer and notice how the numbers are now colored.
5. Right click on the numbered list and select Default Formatting. Only the text defaults the formatting. Optional: You can also try to highlight the entire list, click on Color Font, select Automatic and only the text clears the font coloring.

Here are additional key follow-up tests that I ran which were not a able to replicate this bug.

Saving as .odt file:
1. Select Numbering On/Off to create a numbered list and add a few lines of text.
2. Highlight the last character of text on any of the numbered lines and select Highlighting.
3. Save file as .odt and close file.
4. Open the file in Open Office Writer and notice how the numbers are not highlighted. You are able to use the Default Format option to clear the Highlighting.

Font Coloring on Entire Lines:
1. Select Numbering Off/On to add numbering then add 2 lines of text.
2. Highlight on either of the entire lines of text and select Font Coloring then select a color. This will highlight the entire line including the numbering.
3. Save file as Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP (.doc) and close file.
4. Open the file in Open Office Writer and notice how the only line that has font coloring is the line previous selected.
5. Right click on the numbered list and select Default Formatting. This will clear both the text and the numbers. Optional: You can also try to highlight the entire list, click on Color Font, select Automatic and the text and numbers clears the font coloring.

I was also able to recreate this issue when using bullets instead of numbered lists.

Since Dom Nunley was able to reproduce this, I am moving this to confirmed.
