Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 127854
Very slow horizontal scrolling in Calc
Last modified: 2018-08-27 19:05:36 UTC
Created attachment 86488 [details] ODS file that causes OpenOffice Calc to freeze on scrolling Calc freezes while scrolling in table with long (over 8k characters) cell, when the cell becomes visible. When the cell is out of view, Calc scrolls ok. Steps to reproduce: 1. Open attached ODS document in Calc 4.15. 2. Scroll to the right using keyboard arrows or using mouse and scrollbar to column AE (named "*Description"). What happens: Calc freezes for about 10 seconds, after than it renders the screen correctly and works well. What was expected to happen: Scrolling to the right without freezes, just like with other columns. Some text from About dialog: AOO415m1(Build:9789) - Rev. 1817496 2017-12-11 15:46 - Linux x86_64 My system is Debian 9.5 stable 64 bit, version of OpenOffice is 4.15 stable (downloaded from official site). By the way I have the exactly same bug in LibreOffice 5 (default in Debian 9.3 stable), LibreOffice 6.1 release and latest at the moment LibreOffice 6.2-alpha. So the bug is common for both projects.
I tried to disable OpenGL, JRE and unchecked many checkboxes in Calc options, but nothing helped.
I was not able to reproduce this freeze with AOO 4.1.5 and Win7. I can reach AE column with no problem. But I see that AE cells contains 168 characters and take a bit of time to displayed. Are you sure to have sufficient memory resource?
I cannot confirm with the following configurations: Intel (R) Pentium(R) CPU 4405U @2.10GHz, 2112MHz, 2(Core(s) 4 Logical Processors Total Physical Memory 8.00 GB Operating System: Windows 10 Home OS Build 10.0.16299.371 Version 1803 Apache Open Office: AOO415m1(Build:9789) - Rev. 1817496 2017-12-11 17:25 Additional Language Packs: None and System Configuration: Processor: Intel Core i5 CPU M560 @2.67GHz Installed Memory: 2.00 GB (1.6 usable) Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit Apache Open Office: AOO420m1(Build:9800) - Rev. 1820587 Rev.1820587 Language: en_US Additional Language Packs: None I agree with oooForum(fr) that you may have a memory resource issue. Would one of our volunteers using a Linux 64 bit system please test to be sure it is not a Linux only problem.
I'm sorry, I was talking about column AF (not AE) with name '*Description`, and as I wrote it has more than 8 000 characters. BTW, the bug was reproduced in LibroOffice bug tracker - https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=119362, and it seems to be related to wrapping of long text, because when I unchecked checkbox "Wrap text" in "Format cells" dialog, the freezes go away. (Through a small delay is still there when focus the cell, but not when I just scroll to it.)
