Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 13080
Popup menu on right-click
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:39:33 UTC
When you right-click on an object who don't have the focus (a cell for example) the focus should be give to the "right-clicked" object and after that, the popup menu appear.
assigning to user experience team for evaluation. (think we already have an issue requesting this, but did not find it) I support this request - it find it pretty counter-intuitive that opening the context menu for an object effectively requires two clicks: first select/focus it, then open the menu. This does not conform to user expectations, in my opinion. What sense does it make to right-click onto some portion of a document, if not wanting to have the context menu for this document? What is certainly _not_ wanted with such a click is having the context menu for a completely different portion, which (by accident) is focussed/selected currently. I suggest a general rule for all applications: right-clicking onto something should open the context menu for this object. It needs to be discussed (or decided on a case-by-case basis) whether this object should be automatically selected/focused then (makes much sense), and whether the selection should be restored after the context menu closes (makes sense in seldom cases).
Set to "NEW"
This is a problem in Writer (1.1) with footnotes; having to click once before right-clicking is counter-intuitive. More importantly, right clicking on one footnote when you happen to have the focus on another footnote will pop up the menu right beside the first footnote but selecting "Footnote" from that menu will change settings for the other footnote. Very confusing.
Also note that list boxes, such as the style list, do operate intuitively - right-clicking will select the item under the cursor.
WORKSFORME in 2.2
To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on my owner to the owner "requirements".
