Description badhack 2003-04-15 00:43:26 UTC
If you are plotting 2 columns of data, it's tough to remember which column
becomes the x-axis and which becomes the y-axis. Sometimes, the data I capture
and paste into calc is just backwards. Half the time I fill out the y-axis
name, x-axis name, click Finish only to realize the data are on the wrong axes.

An option to swap the axis would be convenient.

Hi badhack. Thanks for your request.
I belief that you want to swap the range assignment but not the axis. Swapping
axis in general is what happens in the transition from bar to column chart. So I
changed the description.
The scenario that you described will be less painfull with the integration of
another feature ( see issue 30993 ). Than it will be possible to change the
assignment of ranges in a much more flexible way. It should only be an exchange
of two text field contents than. So I change the prio to low. But we could think
on an exchane button there later.

iha,

Actually, my issue is much simpler than that. I do lots of plotting, but it is
always basic "XY" or "Line" charts. My request is more of a useability issue
rather than lack of functionality.

For example, when I paste two columns of data from the lab into Calc and do a XY
plot, Calc asumes that column "A" should be plotted against the Y-axis. It would
be nice to be able to select which column plots along Y, rather than moving data
around on my spreadsheet as I do now.

IHA->BM: Please consider how this issue is related to your issue 3997. Please
also consider the priority again. Thanks.

As with the flexible source range feature (Issue 3997) it will be possible to
select the range for x-values for each data series, it should be sufficient to
solve your problem. Therefore I set this to duplicate.

If you think the solution of using the corresponding dialog for chosing x-values
(see specification on
http://specs.openoffice.org/chart/dataselection/FlexibleSourceRangeSelection.odt)
is not sufficient for your purposes, then please propose a different feasible
(sufficiently generic) solution.
