Description maccy 2003-04-17 09:58:54 UTC
in OO 1.1b1 the REP rules of dictionaries are no longer used.
Delfin should be corrected to Delphin (there are this ph f rules) but OO doesn't bring up any
suggestions for this case. Other spellcheckeing seems to work well.

Hi,

I just tried it on my OOo 1.1 build and the spellchecker successfully suggested
changing:

dolfin to dolphin
telefone to telephone
telegraf to telegraph

So I looked further and Delfin is not a word in the en_US dictionary and neither is
Delphin so it will not suggest a word that is not part of the dictionary. (all testing done
with en_US dictionary).

If you are using another dictionary, then please contact that dictionary author to add in
the proper replacement patterns. (delphin is the common word for dolphin in German
isn't it?, perhaps the de_DE dictionary needs to add some replacement patterns?)

The world delphin in English is typically only found in unabridged dictionaries:

delphin

\Del"phin\, n. [L. delphinus a dolphin.] (Chem.) A fatty substance contained in the oil of
the dolphin and the porpoise; -- called also phocenin.

Source: Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary, © 1996, 1998 MICRA, Inc.

I also found one reference to it in a specialized medical dictionary.

It is not part of the en_US dictionary since the word istypically not used.

If you want you can add it to your own dictionary or ask that it be added to
the en_US dictionary if you can cite its use in documents.

I am closing this as works for me.

Hi Bjoern!

Reopening this.

Thanks to your extra explanation.

Yes, there is a latent bug existing since the very beginning of OOo spellchecking when
making suggestions for words with initial capital letters that only exist as intial capital
letters and I can recreate it.

(since German capitalizes proper nouns and English does not as much, the bug is actually
much easier to see under German).

I have no idea how this worked for you in OOo 1.0.1 for words with capital letters!

Either way I have a fix for it and will commit it for OOo 1.1 Beta 2

Thanks for your bug report!

Kevin

Hi,

This should now be fixed in OOo 1.1 Beta2.

So I am resolving this as fixed. Please verify it when you have a moment.

Thanks for your bug report!

Kevin
