Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 13707
document with many column sections hangs in Writer online layout
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:19:49 UTC
Opening a largish file (1.8 Mb) with many sections of 2 text columns causes 1.1Beta to stop responding and OOo must be killed. It generates many .tmp files in the process. 1.0.3 seems to open the file OK.
Walter, thank you for using and supporting OOo. Please attach the file that consistently demonstrates this problem.

Reproducible with OOo1.1beta on Windows 2000. Loading works, but Writer hangs as soon as I scroll down using mouse and scrollbar. Worksforme with OOo1.1rc2 on Windows 2000. Please try on XP with the latest RC (1.1rc3).
Seems to be fixed when opened with OOo 1.1rc2 on WinXP Pro.
Tested with OOo1.1german on Windows 2000. Document loads ok in normal view but OOo Writer hangs when switching to "view/online layout" confirming
HI->OD: After switched to Online layout the page count increase will not end.
accepted. Document correctly loaded in OOo 1.0.3, but on switch to online layout the Writer loops. The same is hold for OOo 1.1. Thus, the reported defect is fixed. But, we've got the problem in the online layout. Due to this I changed the contents of the summary field.
Lowered prio to 3 and re-targeted to "OO later", because main problem (load in print layout) is already solved in current OO 2.0 snapshot build.
OD is this issue already solved in OOo 2.x ? if yes, better to close it. Thanks
The bug seems to be still present in OOo 2.1 (Linux x86). Writer hanged (>90% CPU, <10% MEM) while scrolling document pages (the document loaded correctly, but keeping PageDown pressed for some seconds has been enough to see the problem).
